Neighbourhood Action Day at Bixley Triangle

Wednesday, May 11th 2016
Yesterday (10th May) children and parents from Havelock Children's Centre joined; Catalyst Housing, Ealing Parks Department, Local Councillors, Volunteers from Southall Transition and the Canal and Rivers Trust, to transform the unloved Bixley Triangle adjacent to Bixley Fiields on the Havelock Estate.  The children took part in sowing grass seed and planting trees.  We plan for this project to be enhanced in the future with some of the children's creative work that can be installed at this site for the community to enjoy.  It was a very wet day but a great opportunity for the community to come together.

A message from Ealing Foodbank

Thursday, March 3rd 2016

As the year comes to a close, we wanted to thank Greenfields Children’s Centre so much for donating to Ealing Foodbank in 2015; without your generosity, our important work would simply not be possible.

To give you an idea of the numbers behind our five cafes:

  • So far in 2015, we have distributed over 36,000 kilogrammes of food
  • Since January, we have fed over 3,400 people, of whom over 1,350 were children
  • Over 120 individuals and organisations have donated food to us in the last 6 months

As we currently distribute around 800 kilos of food per week, it is important that we keep our stocks up, so any future donations would be much appreciated. You can keep up with our work at our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/EalingFoodbank

Yoga with the under three's

Monday, January 4th 2016

This term in the under three’s room the children have been participating in Yoga sessions every Friday. The children look forward to these sessions with excitement. “It’s Harpal the Yoga man” shouts one of the children as Harpal the Yoga teacher enters the room.

Yoga is very good exercise and develops children’s awareness of their body and their concentration.

Transport project

Monday, January 4th 2016

This term the children in the Disraeli room have shown particular interest in ‘Transport.’ We planned the following activities to further develop their interests:

  • Large scale junk modelling
  • Making their own junk models
  • Drawing
  • Puzzles on transport
  • Books on transport
  • Imaginative play with transport vehicles
  • Walks, where the children used the camera to take photos of the different transport they saw.

Can you count how many vehicles, you can see in a day?

Improving boys’ literacy skills

Wednesday, July 1st 2015

"This example of good practice shows how staff at Greenfields Children’s Centre approach teaching, in particular, how a meticulous approach to assessing children to identify any gaps between different groups helps staff to close those gaps quickly. Greenfields Children’s Centre is particularly effective in narrowing the gap between girls and boys, especially in literacy. Staff use a range of innovative and imaginative strategies that are highly effective."
